Simply stated, situation awareness is being more aware of your surrounding and having the ability to make assessments based on what you notice. Often we go about our day – shopping, doctor’s office, school, work – without paying much attention to things around us. Situation awareness is a developed skill that can make you more attune to your environment, such as the people you are passing, the infrastructure you’re near, and the objects around you. This allows a person to help recognize when something is “off” or a threat. Join Captain Gaa as he walks through situation awareness as it applies to home, public places, suspicious behaviors, suspicious items, awareness of points of entry and exit, and available options when facing an issue of concern.
- March 13, 2018 (Full) and March 20, 2018 (Full)

- Instructor: Coroner Jamie Harwood
- Location: Peoria County Coroner's Office

Modern television crime shows have drawn more attention to the coroner's role in determining cause of death and homicide investigations. A coroner investigates sudden, unusual, and traumatic deaths, and ensures the deceased's body is examined, identified, and, if necessary, autopsied. In cases of unnatural or questionable death, the coroner conducts an inquest to determine the manner of death. For those interested in meeting a coroner and learning more about their real-life responsibilities, attend this tour of the Peoria County Coroner's Office.
